Three men have been charged with attempted capital murder in the March shooting of a Wyandotte County sheriff’s deputy.

Wyandotte County prosecutors said Friday that Charles D. Bowser, 18, of Kansas City and Dyron M. King, 24, and Cecil D. Meggerson, 35, both of Kansas City, Kan., are charged with attempting to kill Scott Wood on March 4.

Wood had just gotten off duty that morning and stopped at a convenience store near 44th Street and Shawnee Drive when three robbers entered. He was shot multiple times.

Wood was hospitalized more than two weeks. Doctors said he would require a lengthy period of rehabilitation.

Bowser, King and Meggerson were all arrested shortly after the shooting and charged with another robbery that occurred the day before Wood was wounded.

They are now charged in Wyandotte County District Court in the two crimes with four counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of criminal possession of a firearm and one count of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.

Each is being held on a bond of $1 million.
