Police identified an 18-year-old woman who was killed Wednesday in a car wreck at Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard and Prospect Avenue as Jasmine D. Jones of Kansas City.

The accident occurred about 12:45 p.m. Jones and another woman were traveling westbound when their Pontiac was struck by another vehicle. The Pontiac then was knocked into a third vehicle. Emergency workers freed a passenger from the back seat of the Pontiac.

The driver of the first car involved in the Pontiac collision initially left the scene, police said, but later returned and was arrested.

Initial witness accounts indicated that his car may have run a red light before colliding with the Pontiac, according to police.

The accident remains under investigation.
