18-year prison sentence ordered for Overland Park attempted murder

A 20-year-old man was sentenced Wednesday to 18 years in prison for trying to kill a woman last year in Overland Park.

Richard K. Curtis was sentenced in Johnson County District Court where he pleaded no contest in April and was found guilty of attempted second-degree murder.

The 47-year-old victim was stabbed multiple times in the April 2014 incident that occurred in the 10200 block of West 81st Terrace. He and the woman were described at the time by police as roommates.

Curtis was also sentenced Wednesday to 11 months for possession of methamphetamine. That sentence will run concurrently with the attempted murder sentence.
