One woman was killed and another was critically injured Wednesday afternoon in a central Kansas City traffic crash.

The wreck occurred about 12:45 p.m. at Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd. and Prospect Avenue.

Kansas City police said the women were occupants of a Pontiac passenger car involved in a collision with another vehicle. The Pontiac was knocked into a third vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle initially left the scene, but later returned and was arrested.

Initial witness accounts indicated that his car may have run a red light before colliding with the Pontiac, according to police. The investigation is continuing.
