Robbery suspects arrested in Bonner Springs after long car chase

Three robbery suspects were arrested Tuesday afternoon in Bonner Springs after leading police on a high-speed chase that started near Southwest Boulevard around the state line.

A car matching the description of a vehicle used in an attempted street robbery earlier Tuesday in Shawnee was spotted by Kansas City, Kan., police a little before 1 p.m.

The driver of the car refused to stop for police, drove briefly into Kansas City, and back into Kansas City, Kan. Police and highway patrol troopers pursued the car until the suspects bailed out near Kansas 7 and Kansas 32 in Bonner Springs.

After searching for about an hour, officers located the suspects hiding in a field.

The attempted robbery was reported about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday near 48th and Halsey streets. A man walking his dog told police that a car pulled up next to him and a passenger pointed a handgun at him.

The gunman demanded the man’s wallet and keys, but when he said he didn’t have anything with him, the suspects drove away. The victim was not injured.
