Kansas City man sentenced to 79 years for 2009 double murder

Eria Doss, the 23-year-old man convicted in the April 2009 murders of two men in central Kansas City, was sentenced Friday to 79 years in prison.

The sentencing was announced Saturday by Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

Doss previously had been sentenced to four life terms plus 200 years for the robbery and murders of Andrew Eli and Justin Budreau inside an apartment at 59th Street and Tracy Avenue. Last year, a Missouri appeals court ruled that a new jury should recommend new sentences because the original jury heard improper evidence about his juvenile records.

In late August, a Jackson County jury recommended 30 years each on two convictions of second-degree murder, 10 years for first-degree robbery and three years each on three counts of armed criminal action.
