10 residents displaced by Overland Park apartment fire

Ten persons were displaced early Friday after fire swept through an Overland Park apartment building.

No injuries were reported during the 5 a.m. fire at the Sundance Apartments, in the 6100 block of Foster Street. Several residents escaped. Heavy smoke and flames were visible from a third-floor apartment window when fire crews from Overland Park and Merriam arrived.

It took firefighters about 18 minutes to extinguish the blaze. One apartment unit had heavy fire damage. Three other units sustained smoke damage.

Fire investigators determined the fire was caused by a child playing with a lighter.
