Long prison sentences ordered in drug smuggling case
Two Mexican citizens living in Kansas City were sentenced to lengthy prison terms Tuesday for their roles in a large-scale drug smuggling ring.
A federal judge in Kansas City sentenced 32-year-old Alejandro Valencia to 24 years in prison without parole.
Octavio Rangel-Ortega, 33, was sentenced to 20 years without parole. He was also ordered to forfeit to the government $376,000 in cash seized during the investigation.
Three other men involved in the conspiracy to smuggle large amounts of cocaine and methamphetamine from Mexico were also sentenced to lesser terms in prison.
