4-year-old accidentally shoots himself in the head, Missouri police say

A 4-year-old boy died Tuesday after Missouri police say he accidentally shot himself in the head with a gun he found.

Officers were called to a home in the 500 block of South 11th Street Terrace in Clinton around 12:30 p.m. in reference to a shooting, police said in a Facebook post.

Police said the boy was found on the floor of the kitchen area of the home where the boy’s mother was attempting first aid.

The boy was taken by helicopter to a hospital in the Kansas City area, but police said he died shortly afterward.

Police said a preliminary investigation showed the boy had located a gun in the kitchen area of the home and accidentally discharged it, shooting himself in the head.

The boy’s identity has not been released.

The investigation was ongoing.
