Utility worker calls KC police after finding unattended suitcase, ammo can on Broadway

For about an hour Wednesday afternoon, Kansas City police blocked off part of the 3700 block of Broadway Boulevard to investigate a report of a suspicious package found in some bushes near a building.

Police said they received the report around 2 p.m., and cleared the area after determining the items found did not contain explosive material.

Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a police spokesman, said a utility worker had called police after finding an unattended suitcase and an ammo can.

The police department’s bomb and arson squad responded to the scene. Part of Broadway was closed as police investigated.

Traffic was reopened in all directions by 3:45 p.m.
