Leawood lawyer sent to prison for not paying taxes, must pay $200,000
A 58-year-old Leawood lawyer was sentenced Monday to one year and six months in prison for tax evasion.
David B. Mandelbaum will also pay the Internal Revenue Service more than $200,000 in restitution as part of his plea agreement with federal prosecutors.
Mandelbaum pleaded guilty in August in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan., to owing more than $132,000 for the tax years from 2005 and 2010.
He took steps to hide income from the IRS, including co-mingling personal fund with trust funds that were supposed to be solely for client money.
