Independence teen allegedly shown on video pointing gun at child charged with robbery
A felony robbery charge was filed Wednesday against an Independence teenager allegedly depicted in an online video holding a gun to a younger child’s head.
Alexander Schrader, 17, was charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with one count of first-degree robbery.
Independence police said that Schrader turned himself in Tuesday. On Wednesday his bond was set at $100,000.
The charge alleges that Schrader confronted the 13-year-old victim on Oct. 20 and stole money from him at gunpoint.
A video of the incident was posted on social media and showed the kneeling victim with the muzzle of a handgun pressed against his head.
Another teen is shown on the video punching the victim several times.
Police had identified Schrader as a “person of interest” in the video incident before he was charged Wednesday.
Jackson County prosecutors said the teen who allegedly punched the victim and another teen who recorded the incident on video have been taken into custody and turned over to juvenile authorities.
