Man shot inside vehicle drives to Raytown Popeye’s restaurant for help, police say

A man was seriously injured in a drive-by shooting Saturday afternoon in Raytown and drove to a local fast food restaurant for help, police said in a news release.

Police were called to the area of 87th Street and Elm Avenue around 2:03 p.m. in reference to shots fired. Shortly after receiving the call, police said they received another report from Popeye’s Chicken at 7601 Raytown Road regarding a man who had been shot.

Officers arrived at the restaurant and learned that the man had been shot in the 9000 block of 87th Street.

According to the news release, police were told a dark sedan had passed the man’s vehicle on 87th Street and shots started coming from the sedan. The gunfire struck the man, his vehicle and a second vehicle nearby. The sedan left the scene, police said, and the man drove to Popeye’s and called 911.

The man was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

A woman who was in the victim’s vehicle at the time of the shooting was not injured.

No arrests have been made.

Police said the investigation was ongoing.
