Police in Miami County, Kan., said a suspect was in custody hours after a vehicle struck a 12-year-old boy and left the scene Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened around 4:35 p.m. in Paola.
Police said the vehicle, a dark-colored SUV, was traveling south on Pearl Street when it struck the boy near Grandview Drive.
The boy was taken to a hospital. The extent of his injuries was unknown Tuesday night.

Police were looking for the SUV, which was described as having possible front-end damage on the passenger side or toward the center, police said in a Facebook post. The vehicle was also leaking fluid as it drove away.
By 8 p.m., police announced a suspect was taken into custody and the investigation was ongoing.
