KCPD asks for help finding ‘subject of interest’ in fatal shooting Saturday night
Update: Kansas City police on Monday, Oct. 8 announced that Marlawn Betts was in police custody.
Police are looking for a 24-year-old Kansas City man they are calling a “subject of interest” in a fatal shooting late Saturday at the Olive Park Village apartments east of downtown Kansas City.
Police said they are looking for Marlawn D. Betts. They said he should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him should call 911 and not approach him.
A complete description of Betts was not available from police.
The victim in the shooting was identified as 27-year-old Jesse Young III.
The shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the apartments in the 2300 block of East Ninth Street.
Witnesses told police that two men were arguing outside the apartments when one of the men shot the other and fled.
Young was pronounced dead at the scene.
