Independence police released a sketch Thursday of a man suspected of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman, in an effort to identify him.

Police said in a statement the incident happened between 9:50 p.m. Oct. 1 and 1:50 a.m. Oct. 2.

The woman told authorities a man pulled her inside a small silver-colored car while she was in the parking lot of her apartment complex in the area of East 37th Terrace South and Arrowhead Avenue. The woman said he drove her about a mile away to a wooded area near R.D. Mize Road and South Selsa Road and sexually assaulted her.

The man was described as a white male, about 6 feet fall, with a thin build, dark eyebrows, dark-colored eyes and sunken cheeks. Police said he was bald or had very little hair on his head. He was described as wearing a dark blue or black tank top and dark blue or black pants.

Police said a sketch artist used the victim’s descriptions to create a drawing of the suspect.
