If you witness a crime, here’s what to do
A 43-year-old man was accused this week of exposing himself in front of a teen girl inside a Walmart in Cass County.
Prosecutors charged Scott L. Hammonds in Cass County Circuit Court with sexual misconduct involving a child under 15, a felony, and first-degree sexual misconduct, a misdemeanor.
The incident happened Sunday inside a Walmart in Raymore. A teen girl talked to police after a man, later identified as Hammonds, approached her in the electronics section of the store with his genitals out of his pants.
The girl was scared and walked to the front of the store for help, she told police.
Police located Hammonds the next day outside his home in Raymore, after observing Hammonds driving around the parking lots of Sam’s Club, Lowes and Price Chopper as if we he was looking for someone.
Hammonds allegedly admitted to police he exposed his genitalia to the girl at Walmart, and indicated he needed mental help.
Soon after, police received another report from a woman who said she saw a man outside Walmart earlier in the day masturbating inside his vehicle with the passenger side window down. Police indicated the woman’s description of the suspect vehicle was similar to the vehicle Hammonds was seen driving earlier in the day.
Court records said Hammonds was arrested earlier this year after similar incidents involving three female victims.
A warrant for his arrest was issued.
Hammonds was in custody Thursday at the Cass County jail with bond set at $50,000 cash.
