Police waiting on search warrant to further investigate triple homicide in Raytown
Investigators think a triple shooting that killed three men outside a Raytown home Sunday evening was a murder-suicide, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
The patrol made the statement in a post on Twitter Monday morning, adding that the names of the men killed were being withheld until family could be notified.
Raytown police responded about 8:20 p.m. Sunday to the 11000 block of East 74th Terrace after someone heard gunfire and called 911. The caller told police there were bodies lying in front of a home.
Arriving officers found the three men dead from gunshot wounds.
At the request of Raytown police, the highway patrol took the lead in the investigation.
The triple homicide rocked the neighborhood, which residents described as a quiet area.
“We walk in this neighborhood all the time,” said a woman who lived nearby. “I was shocked.”
The woman said she feared one of the victims was a man she talked to frequently.
“He was a very nice person,” she said. “He always said, ‘Hi,’ to you if he saw you out walking.”
Another resident, who has lived in the area for more than 30 years, said the neighborhood has little crime.
“We never have had any problems down here before,” he said.
