Charges filed in Raytown homicide
A Kansas City teenager was accused Thursday of killing a man in Raytown last month.
Prosecutors charged Jayron Wright, 18, in Jackson County Circuit Court with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the Aug. 26 fatal shooting of Patterson Jennings, 33, in the 6900 block of Hunter Street.
According to court documents, a witness told police that Wright allegedly confessed to killing someone in Raytown who had tried to steal from him.
Investigators determined that the last call received on Jennings’ cellphone came from Wright’s cellphone, the documents allege. Police also later determined that Wright’s phone was in the area about the time of the homicide.
Wright was arrested Tuesday by Kansas City, Kan., police on unrelated charges and was being held in the Wyandotte County Jail.
