One person fatally wounded in shooting at KC restaurant, police say

A man was fatally wounded Friday evening in a shooting inside a Kansas City restaurant.

Kansas City police responded around 7 p.m. to J's Fish and Chicken Market at 5412 Prospect Ave. The victim was described as being in his 20s or 30s.

Capt. Lionel Colón with Kansas City police said it was unclear how the shooter or shooters left the scene.

"Right now there's nobody in custody, no suspect information," he said.

He implored witnesses to contact police, either by calling the homicide unit at 816-234-5043 or by anonymously submitting a tip at 816-474-8477.

Responding officers performed CPR on the victim until Kansas City fire personnel arrived and transported him to a hospital, where he died.

Carl Bradley and Lemmie Dean, who were inside a nearby motel, said they heard five gunshots coming from the direction of the restaurant. By the time they made it outside, the suspect had fled.
