KC man found naked by police stripped of his freedom for firearm violation

A Kansas City man’s naked gun-firing escapade has led to an 18-month federal prison sentence.

Errick E. Martin, 43, was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Kansas City after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Prosecutors charged him last August after Kansas City police responded to a report of shots being fired in a parking lot in the 1500 block of East Bannister Road and found Martin naked.

A witness told police that they heard four or five shots being fired from a car that Martin had arrived in, and then they saw him take off his clothes, according to court documents.

Officers found a shirt, shorts and .357-caliber revolver on the ground. They found Martin’s identification in the shorts and a holster strapped to the inside waistband, according to court documents. They found five spent shell casings in the gun’s cylinder.

Martin told police that he had bought the gun recently and wanted to test-fire it. He also said he had smoked PCP earlier that morning and had taken his clothes off because he felt hot.

Martin has prior felony convictions for aggravated assault, burglary and possession of a controlled substance, according to court records.
