Overland Park teen charged in traffic death of pedestrian

Johnson County prosecutors charged an Overland Park teenager Tuesday with involuntary manslaughter in the death last month of a man hit by a car while standing next to a parked vehicle.

Prosecutors alleged that 17-year-old Conner Estrella was driving under the influence of alcohol when 52-year-old Kevin Patrick Moroney was killed while standing in the 8400 block of Tomahawk Road.

Estrella also was charged with aggravated battery for injuring a woman who was standing with Moroney at the time of the incident on Aug. 7.

The charges were filed in the juvenile division of Johnson County District Court, but prosecutors filed a motion seeking to have Estrella tried as an adult.

Court records show that Estrella was placed on probation in April for being a minor in possession of alcohol and possession of drug paraphernalia.
