"Sweets" the Kansas City heroin dealer convicted thanks to user who almost died

A Kansas City woman has pleaded guilty to selling heroin in a case where one of her customers almost died.

Loretta Gilliard, 34, who was known as "Sweets," will serve a sentence of seven years in prison as part of Tuesday's plea agreement in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan.

A drug user, who had purchased heroin from Gilliard about 100 times, overdosed at home in Overland Park on April 26, 2016, according to the plea agreement.

The user, who is not identified in court documents, was found unresponsive without a pulse.

The person was revived when emergency medical personnel administered Narcan, a drug that reverses the effects of opioids.

After that, the user agreed to cooperate with investigators and made several more heroin purchases from Gilliard before she was arrested.
