A former Gardner Edgerton High School teacher pleaded guilty Friday to having sex with a student.
Todd A. Burd, 45, taught music and was the choir director at the school in late 2016 when the incident occurred.
Burd was initially charged with aggravated criminal sodomy after the 16-year-old boy reported being assaulted while sitting in the cab of Burd's pickup truck.
But on Friday, he pleaded guilty in Johnson County District Court to amended charges of unlawful sexual relations.
According to court documents, the victim told police that before the sexual activity, Burd had been communicating with him online, sending photographs and messages that were "sexual in nature."
He said Burd had been pressuring him to meet after school hours, according to the documents, and said Burd wanted to talk to him in person.
Sentencing for Burd is scheduled for June 29.
