A woman who embezzled more than $1 million from a Kansas City optics company is going to federal prison.

Janee C. Rosenthal was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Kansas City to three years and two months in prison.

The charges stemmed from Rosenthal's job with Firestone Optics, a contact lenses supplier, and involved many years of stealing the company's money before she was caught, according to court documents.

Rosenthal, 56, was ordered to pay $1,097,448 in restitution.

According to her plea agreement, Rosenthal used the embezzled money for a variety of personal and entertainment expenses, including a cruise, tickets to Royals and Chiefs games and to buy groceries, cosmetics, jewelry and computer and electronics components.

She also paid taxes and utility bills with the stolen money.

She was ordered to surrender to federal prison authorities by May 29.
