Man thanks police for his timely DUI arrest. The next day, he had planned to murder
A man who had a shotgun with him when he was arrested for drunk driving allegedly told Blue Springs police he planned to kill somebody the next day.
And he was glad, he told them, that they prevented him from going through with it, according to court documents.
Because he is a convicted felon, Seneca Harrison was charged Tuesday in federal court with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Harrison, 35, was driving on U.S. 40 on Monday when he was pulled over for speeding by Blue Springs police.
He allegedly resisted arrest, shoving an officer, before he was detained.
A loaded 12-gauge shotgun was found in the vehicle and officers learned that Harrison was a convicted felon, according to an affidavit filed in court to support the charge.
After he refused to take a breath test to determine if he was intoxicated, Harrison was taken to a hospital to have his blood drawn.
It was at the hospital that Harrison allegedly told officers of his plans.
"I'm kinda glad you guys got me," he is quoted as saying in the affidavit. "You knew I was going to kill someone tomorrow."
Harrison continued, "I was about to go away for a long time," according to the affidavit.
He allegedly told the officer he had "just got that shotgun."
Harrison is currently on probation for unlawful possession of a firearm and has prior felony convictions for burglary and unlawful use of a weapon, according to court records.
The new federal charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
