Kansas City police start homicide investigation after body of woman is found in park

Police are investigating a woman's death as a homicide after her body was found in a wooded area in Sheffield Park, at 10th Street and Ewing Avenue on Kansas City's East Side.

Details of who found the woman have not been released. Police do not know how long the woman had been left in the park but it appeared to be fairly recently.

After the body was discovered Tuesday police first said they were conducting a death investigation. Later in the afternoon, police said the death was being investigated as a homicide.

The Jackson County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy, said Capt. Lionel Colón, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

Anyone with information should call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
