Liberty man convicted of killing wife

A Liberty man was convicted Wednesday of second-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife of 23 years.

Ervin D. Carroll, 46, killed 51-year-old Linda Carroll with a shotgun in October last year. He also wounded a friend of hers in the foot.

The friend told police that Ervin Carroll piled his wife’s belongings on the floor and told her to leave. He later approached the women with a 10-gauge shotgun and when Linda Carroll grabbed it to push the barrel away, it went off.

Carroll also was convicted of unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree assault and armed criminal action.

A jury recommended 30 years for the murder charge. Carroll will be sentenced later.
