Crash scene in KCK becomes homicide investigation after man found shot in SUV
Police investigating an SUV crash discovered a homicide scene after they found a man dead with a gunshot wound inside the vehicle Sunday afternoon in Kansas City, Kan.
The body was in the driver's seat of a Chevrolet Suburban that had crashed into a tree about 1:30 p.m. at the Forest Glen Estate Apartments near 64th Terrace and Tauromee Avenue.
Police said the body belonged to a man in his 30s but details of what led up to the shooting were not known.
“We’re not sure if it happened inside the vehicle or if it was outside the vehicle,” said Officer Patrick McCallop, a Kansas City, Kan., Police Department spokesman.
Police Chief Terry Zeigler said on Twitter, "We do not believe it was a random act of violence."
Police were canvassing the scene Sunday afternoon to determine where the shooting happened.
“This is a fairly quiet area,” McCallop said. “Not a lot of shootings in this area."
