Former Karate instructor from Raytown faces child porn charges

A former area karate school instructor is facing federal child pornography charges.

Jered S. Faulkner, 36, of Raytown, allegedly possessed more than 1,000 images of suspected child pornography on his computer, according to documents filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Kansas City.

Among the images were two taken with a cellphone that depicted a girl who appeared to be about 7 years old with her shorts pulled down. An “adult male hand” was pulling her underwear aside, according to the documents.

Investigators later determined that the pictures were taken in July 2014 and the girl was a former student at a karate studio where Faulkner worked at the time.

The documents don’t name the studio.

A federal grand jury last week indicted Faulkner on charges of attempted production of child pornography, possession of child pornography, and distributing and receiving child pornography over the Internet.

He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday. Federal prosecutors have requested that he be detained without bond.
