A 20-year-old man is charged in a 2017 Kansas City homicide that he allegedly talked about on a recorded jail telephone line.

Caleb B. Patterson is charged with first-degree murder in the killing of Juan Marin, Jackson County prosecutors said Friday.

Marin was beaten and stomped to death in January 2017 in the 1200 block of Admiral Boulevard.

Patterson was arrested and charged with committing a robbery in that area.

While being held in the Jackson County Jail, he allegedly made comments about the killing in phone calls that were recorded.

Patterson said in a call that Marin had tried to steal from him, according to court documents.

He allegedly said an altercation started as a “simple fight,” but that it “felt good to let some anger out,” and “I just couldn’t stop hitting him.”

H also took a witness to see Marin’s body and told the witness that he had killed him, according to the allegations.
