Bag of Susan B. Anthony coins gave KC credit union robber away
A 56-year-old man pleaded guilty Wednesday to the 2016 robbery of a credit union inside Research Medical Center.
Steven McCrary admitted that he robbed the Community America Credit Union at Research Medical Center in the 2300 block of East Meyer Boulevard.
According to court documents filed in the case, McCrary walked into the credit union and asked a teller for change for a $100 bill.
He then placed a plastic bag on the counter, pulled out a handgun, and demanded money.
The teller handed over $3,815, including 68 commemorative Susan B. Anthony coins.
A short time later, hospital security officers stopped McCrary and held him for Kansas City police.
Among items he was caught carrying were a replica handgun and $3,815, including 68 Susan B. Anthony coins.
McCrary denied committing the robbery and said he found the bag of money while walking down the street.
He was on parole for a previous robbery conviction at the time, according to Missouri prison records.
