Woman prisoner steals and wrecks sheriff’s patrol car

A woman in custody being transported to the Jackson County jail on Tuesday stole an Andrew County, Mo., deputy sheriff’s patrol car and wrecked it in Kansas City, Kan.

The woman, described as about 30, was being transported shortly after noon by the deputy from Andrew County, north of St. Joseph. According to police she complained of being sick, prompting the deputy to pull over near Interstate 29 and 72nd Street.

When the deputy got out of the car the woman jumped into the front seat and sped away. She drove to a spot near Interstate 635 and Kansas 5, where she crashed into a wooded area and fled on foot.

Kansas City, Kan., police arrested the woman in the 3000 block of North 18th Street. She was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
