Butler, Mo., woman is charged in vehicular fatality on Minor Drive
Jackson County authorities have charged a 25-year-old woman for her role in the death of a woman who was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed into a tree.
Krestin A. Hawk of Butler, Mo., faces a charge of first-degree involuntary manslaughter for the fatal accident Feb. 15 in the 11500 block of Minor Drive in south Kansas City. The victim was Kaitlyn E. Turner, 23, of Butler.
According to court records, Hawk was driving a Chevrolet Blazer east on Minor Drive when the vehicle left the road and struck a metal light pole. The SUV overturned and struck a tree.
Police found Turner pinned in the passenger seat. She died at the scene.
Hawk was pulled from the vehicle and taken to a hospital. Police said she became combative with hospital staff, who had to sedate her. A toxicology report indicated Hawk’s blood alcohol content was 0.128 percent. The legal limit in Missouri is 0.08 percent.
Hawk later told investigators that she had picked up Turner in Butler to see the movie “Fifty Shades of Grey.” However, they skipped the movie and went to a bar at 119th Street and Metcalf Avenue.
They arrived at 9 p.m. and Hawk drank a shot of alcohol before they went inside, according to court records. She drank two beers while they were at the bar.
