Attempted murder plea in shooting of 5-year-old girl at Lenexa hotel
A Topeka man pleaded guilty Monday to firing a gunshot at another man at a Lenexa hotel last year and hitting a 5-year-old girl.
Antwaun Nelson Fulton pleaded guilty in Johnson County District Court to felony charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling.
The little girl suffered a non-life threatening wound to her leg.
Fulton, 36, was at the Crossland Economy Studios in the 9700 block of Lenexa Drive last July when he saw a man who he had been in a dispute with.
He fired a single gunshot at the man. The bullet missed the man, but struck the little girl’s leg.
Under terms of Monday’s plea agreement, lawyers will recommend a sentence of about 18 years in prison.
Sentencing for Fulton was scheduled for March 15.
