Student, 63, charged with bomb threat at KU Edwards Campus
A 63-year-old student was charged Wednesday with making a bomb threat at the University of Kansas Edwards Campus in Overland Park.
Richard Aaron Ellis of Kansas City, Kan., was charged in Johnson County District Court with aggravated criminal threat, a felony.
Ellis was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly stood up in a class and claimed to have a bomb and hand grenades in a backpack.
The building was evacuated and police were called.
Overland Park police said they found no explosive devices.
Bond for Ellis was set at $50,000. At his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon he told the judge he will hire his own lawyer.
He is scheduled to be back in court Feb. 1.
