A 22-year-old man has been convicted in Jackson County Circuit Court in the shooting death of another man who was dating his former girlfriend.

A Jackson County jury found Dairian E. Stanley guilty of first-degree murder for killing Torrence Evans on Sept. 25, 2016, in the 5600 block of Hardesty Avenue. Stanley was acquitted of kidnapping. His sentencing date has not been set.

Authorities said Stanley confronted his former girlfriend, assaulted her and threatened to kill her after he learned that she had a relationship with Evans.

Stanley made her drive with him to 56th and Hardesty, where he confronted Evans and fatally shot him, according to court documents.

The woman ran away, and Stanley reportedly fled in her car. He was later arrested in Tulsa, Okla.
