Eight years in prison says: Don’t toy with the IRS

A former Kansas City tax preparer has been sentenced to eight years in prison for helping to file false tax returns.

Alfred Reece was also ordered to pay $648,442 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service.

Reece, 58, formerly of Overland Park, was the owner of a Kansas City tax preparation business.

He pleaded guilty last October in federal court to aiding in the preparation and filing of false and fraudulent tax returns.

Over a two-year period beginning in 2013, Reece prepared tax returns for numerous other people that included false claims for deductions they were not entitled to claim.

He concealed his involvement by claiming they were self-prepared.

The scheme resulted in an estimated loss of $550,000 to $1.5 million to the IRS.
