Sex offender from Texas moved to Missouri, failed to register, feds allege
A Texas sex offender is facing federal charges for failing to register after moving to Missouri.
James J. Wardlaw was arrested Tuesday after a federal grand jury in Kansas City indicted him on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender after moving to Missouri in November.
Wardlaw, 32, has a 2006 convicted in Texas for sexual assault of a child, according to court records.
As a result of the conviction, Wardlaw is required to register with authorities in the state where he resides.
Although he initially registered after his release from prison in Texas, he has subsequently faced charges of failing to register in Texas and Iowa, according to the records.
The court records do not indicate where Wardlaw was living in Missouri.
The federal charge carries a prison sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
