Murder charges filed in KC stabbing

Charges were filed Saturday in a fatal stabbing on Friday outside an east Kansas City apartment complex.

Ernil E. Roberts, 21, faces charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

Responding to an afternoon disturbance in the 10600 block of East 42nd Street, police found Deshon Hawkins, 21, dead on a lawn. Police said that Roberts was using a shirt to cover a stab wound to Hawkins’ chest when authorities arrived.

Roberts initially denied being in a fight with Hawkins, police alleged, but one of several witnesses had recorded the incident on a cell phone.

Prosecutors requested a $150,000 bond.
