Charge upgraded to murder in KC child abuse death
A 19-year-old Kansas City woman now faces a charge of second-degree murder in the death last month of her 1-year-old daughter.
Donniesha Lasha Lee had previously been charged with child abuse and first-degree domestic assault. The girl’s death was ruled a homicide.
Paramedics and police were called to an apartment in the 6900 block of East 116th Street on March 26 and found the child, D’myia, unresponsive. Witnesses told police that Lee had been drinking and was holding the child tightly to her chest and striking her trying to get her to be quiet. The child was pronounced dead at a hospital.
