The co-owner of a downtown Kansas City pizza restaurant has been charged with attempting to rape a woman inside a bar that shares building space with the restaurant.

Dennis A. Skeen, 38, of Blue Springs, was arrested Saturday after three witnesses reported seeing a sexual assault in progress inside the business, which was closed at the time, at the corner of Truman Road and Grand Boulevard.

Prosecutors charged Skeen with three felony counts. He was being held on a $100,000 cash bond, according to court records.

According to court documents:

The witnesses were walking past the business just after 6 a.m. Saturday when they saw a man having sex with a woman who appeared to be unconscious.

When they pounded on the window, the man looked up at them and began to drag the woman toward a back room. They called police.

When questioned later, the woman told detectives she had a couple of beers while sitting at the bar with Skeen before he gave her two shots of an alcoholic beverage. She does not remember anything after that.

Records filed with the Missouri secretary of state list Skeen as an owner of the Downtown Pizza Co. at 1501 Grand Blvd.

An attorney representing Skeen said Monday that he had not had a chance to review the allegations and could not comment.
