An 85-year-old Kansas City man who propositioned a teenage boy for sex in a public library bathroom instead got a punch in the face and a criminal charge, police say.

Troy E. Flory is charged with child molestation and is free on his own recognizance. But he is under orders to have no contact with anyone under 17. His arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 3.

According to a court document, a 15-year-old boy was washing his hands in the third-floor men’s room at the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Saturday afternoon. Flory was in one of the stalls.

The boy told police that Flory emerged from the stall with his pants unbuckled and approached him from behind. Flory allegedly began rubbing the boy’s chest and then moved his hand down to the boy’s crotch and applied pressure while asking, “Do you want to play around?”

The boy socked the man in the face and ran out of the bathroom.

Flory was detained by library security until police arrived. Flory acknowledged to police that he asked the boy whether he wanted to “play around” and that he meant that as a proposition for sex, police say. But Flory denied touching the boy. He said he was just standing next to him at the sink.
