A Mission man who was on parole in a drug possession case was accused Monday of striking a Prairie Village police officer with his car Sunday.

Edward Daniel Brown, 30, was charged in Johnson County District Court with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing and eluding, interference with a law enforcement officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said the officer was not seriously injured in the incident that began just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday when the officer made a traffic stop in the 7400 block of Belinder Avenue.

When the officer got out of his patrol car, the driver put the car in reverse, pinning the officer between the patrol car’s open door and a tree, police said. A second officer fired shots at the vehicle, but the driver was not hit.

Police pursued the vehicle into Kansas City and back into Prairie Village before arresting Brown about two blocks from the scene of the original stop.

According to court records, Brown was placed on probation last year after pleading guilty to theft and possession of oxycodone. His probation was revoked in July and he was sent to prison. He was released on parole in November, according to Kansas Department of Corrections records.
