A 51-year-old man who was critically injured after being stabbed by an assailant for more than seven minutes has died, Kansas City police said Friday.

Police said the victim was Roderick Torrence. The attack occurred Nov. 14 at Hectors Car Wash, 820 Prospect Ave. Arriving officers found Torrence with multiple stab wounds.

Two days later, Jackson County prosecutors charged Sonny R. Scott, 40, with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and robbery .

Investigators used surveillance video from the car wash and from a convenience store at Ninth and Prospect to determine what happened. The video showed the seven-minute attack and the attacker going through Torrence’s pockets and removing his billfold.

Scott ran southbound from the car wash when a witness pulled up in a car to the vacuuming station. The witness told the police he had warned Scott in the past to stay away from the car wash.

Police found Scott at an unoccupied building in the 3700 block of Truman Road with blood on his clothing and a blood-covered screwdriver. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Investigators were alerted that Torrence died on Thursday.
