A yoga instructor accused of molesting a young boy at a Parkville school admitted during questioning he inappropriately touched the child on more than one occasion, Platte County prosecutors said Wednesday.
Christian A. Hammond, 22, of Kansas City, was charged with one count of second-degree child molestation of a child under the age of 12.
According to court records, Hammond is a yoga instructor at Parkville Children’s Cottage, a Montessori school for children ages 6 weeks to 9 years old. He is accused of fondling one of the students at the school.
Hammond was arrested Tuesday and remained in jail a day later after prosecutors requested a $100,000 cash-only bond.
According to court documents, a 6-year-old boy told investigators Hammond inappropriately touched him after yoga class Nov. 7. Hammond is reportedly a contractor with the school who teaches ballet and yoga on Tuesdays.
Jennifer Snider, an attorney for Parkville Children’s Cottage, declined to comment on the accusation.
“Our only comment is that the privacy and safety of children is our No. 1 priority,” she said.
During questioning, Hammond said he hugged the boy with two arms and put his hand on the boy’s butt on the outside of his pants and squeezed it.
Hammond also told police he previously touched the boy’s penis on the outside of his pants on more than one occasion.
Court records indicate when a detective asked Hammond why he picked the victim he stated, “I don’t know, he is a cute child.”
