A Kansas auto dealer said he would donate $100 per vehicle sold to a memorial fund for a slain police officer, then he didn’t pay for two years, according to the Kansas Attorney General’s Office.

Justin Bogina of Tecumseh operated a business, Auto Acceptance Center Corp., in Topeka since at least 2014, when he began advertising the $100 donation. The donations, he claimed, would benefit the memorial fund of Jason E. Harwood, who was a Topeka police corporal killed in the line of duty in September of 2014.

But Bogina and his company “did not track the sales for the purpose of making the donation, and no donation was made until April 2016, after the attorney general’s office launched its investigation,” the office said in a news release published Wednesday.

The auto dealer has been ordered to temporarily refrain from conducting business related to the sale of property or services in Kansas.

The Google entry for Bogina’s dealership states it has been “permanently closed.”

“The Court found sufficient evidence that if the defendants were allowed to continue doing business additional consumers would be harmed,” the release said.

Bogina is charged with other offenses such as selling vehicles without providing certificates of title, and he faces a lawsuit for “violating state consumer protection laws,” according to Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt.
