Blue Springs police identify 17-year-old wreck victim

Authorities have identified a 17-year-old killed in a vehicular accident Sunday following a two-mile police chase as Marcus Fanning of Blue Springs.

The wreck occurred about 2 p.m. near Northwest Hidden Ridge Circle and Valley View Road after Fanning fled Blue Springs police, who had been summoned to an apartment complex in the 1000 block of Candletree Drive on a report of a suspicious incident.

Police determined that Fanning was driving a stolen vehicle. When officers tried to pull it over, Fanning sped away, police said. The officers followed.

Fanning headed west on Valley View at high speed, police said. He lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center line and struck a pickup truck. Two people who had been riding in the truck were taken to a hospital. Their conditions were not available Monday, police said.
