A 24-year-old Raytown man was charged Friday in Thursday’s fatal shooting outside of a Blue Springs restaurant.
Jackson County prosecutors charged John D. Jeffries with second-degree murder in the killing of Clinton Peckman.
Jeffries, also known as John D. Jefferies, was also charged with two counts of armed criminal action and one count of first-degree robbery for allegedly carjacking another victim after the shooting.
Peckman, of Paola, Kan., was fatally shot outside the Bethlehem Cafe in the 1500 block of N.W. Woods Chapel Road.
Witnesses gave police the description of the shooter.
Officer arrested Jeffries a short time later about three blocks away.
After he was taken into custody, police learned that after the shooting, a couple had their vehicle stolen at gunpoint outside of another nearby restaurant.
