Driver fatally shot at stoplight in Kansas City, Kan.

The driver of a car stopped at a Kansas City, Kan., traffic light was fatally shot Friday morning by another driver, who sped away, police said.

A maroon Ford and a silver car were southbound on North 78th Street near Interstate 70 when someone in the silver car fired shots into the Ford, Kansas City, Kan., police said.

Both cars continued south, and the Ford collided with another vehicle while the silver car sped away.

Emergency crews were called about 9:15 a.m., and the victim was found dead inside the Ford. A second person in the Ford fled the scene, police said.

The name of the victim has not been released. Police did not have a detailed description of the shooter.

“Unfortunately it is one of those things that’s hard to control. You never know when two people who don’t get along run into each other,” said police spokesman Officer Tom Tomasic. “It’s very random, but it could happen at any time. Unfortunately when someone wants to start shooting, this is what happens. You put a lot of people in danger.”
